Handicap Striping Stalls Pembroke Pines, FL

Is ADA parking lot compliance mandatory?

The 1990 ADA laws require every parking lot to have several handicap parking spaces determined by the size of the parking area.  As mentioned above, there are two types of parking spaces: van spaces and handicap stalls. You must have both parking spaces. The number of handicap spaces you should have will depend on the total amount of parking spaces you want to construct, as well as the type of business you operate. Contact a professional estimator to help you determine the number of accessible parking spaces to build.

Detailed requirements
Here is some vital information you need to know about handicap accessible parking spaces:

Size
Before you start the construction process, determine the measurements of the parking stalls first.  The width should be approximately 96 inches. The adjacent aisle should be at least 20 feet long and 60 inches wide. For the vans, the width must be at least 132 inches.

Signs
There are rules for signage for accessible parking space. You must install globally accepted symbols for accessibility. Ensure the signs are high enough for people to see. Everyone should be able to see the area is explicitly spared for vans.

Entrance
If your building has several entries, it is wise to construct the accessible parking space near the gates to allow every person to enter your building freely. This also says much about your business, that you take into account everyone’s interest.

How often should you repaint the Accessible stalls in your parking lot?
There is no universal consensus of how often one should repaint the accessible stalls. However, it is good to do it at least twice a year. Yet, if the paint starts to fade sooner after painting the stalls, you may have to repaint. You can paint the stalls at least three times per year to make sure they remain relevant.
